A 24-year-old cyclist has died after being hit by a driver in Grabów Wójtostwa on the night from Saturday to Sunday. The driver fled the scene of the accident, but was arrested after a few dozen minutes. He was drunk.
On Sunday, just before 2 a.m., a fatal accident occurred in the town of Grabów Wójtostwo near Ostrzeszów (Wielkopolska Province). The tragedy occurred on a straight section of road, in a built-up area.
– A 24-year-old resident of the Grabów nad Prosną commune, driving an Audi, under the influence of alcohol, hit a cyclist traveling in the same direction on the right side of the road – said Senior Sergeant Magdalena Hańdziuk from the District Police Headquarters in Ostrzeszów. After everything, the driver left the scene of the accident without providing help to the injured party.
“At the scene we found a police patrol and a medical rescue team already present, who confirmed the death of the person riding the bike,” the Volunteer Fire Department in Grabów nad Prosną reported.
The Audi driver was arrested after a few dozen minutes and placed in police custody. The police, under the supervision of the prosecutor, are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident. – It turned out that he was drunk. The test showed 2 per mille of alcohol in the exhaled air – said the policewoman.
The body of the 24-year-old victim was secured for autopsy. Provincial road number 450 was blocked for over 4 hours.
