According to estimates, grain stocks in Poland may amount to about 9 million tons. Right after the harvest, which promises to be good, our market may be flooded with a new wave of crops from Ukraine. Will the Minister of Agriculture resign? – wonders “Rzeczpospolita”.

The daily reminds that “in April, the Minister of Agriculture, Robert Telus, gave his head that he would settle the matter of a huge surplus of grain by the harvest, i.e. he would take the supplies out of Poland. And if he failed, he declared that he would resign.”

Grain in Poland – estimates

– Stocks in Poland are estimated at a maximum of 9 million tons – told the newspaper grain market analyst of the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics, Dr. Wiesław Łopaciuk.

“Here’s where the gigantic surplus came from: last year’s harvest was 35.7 million tons, plus imports from Ukraine – 5 million tons. We consumed 25 million tons and exported about 12.6 million tons. To the 3 million tonnes remaining in this way, stocks from 2022 in the amount of 6.5 million tonnes should be added. According to various estimates, we have in our warehouses from 6 to 9.6 million tons of grain, explains Rzeczpospolita.

According to the daily, it would have been more if exports had not accelerated in May. “A record-breaking 880,000 tons of grain flowed through Polish ports,” we read.

Rzeczpospolita also reports that “another unfulfilled promise of Minister Telus is the publication of a list of grain importers from Ukraine”. “The Ministry of Agriculture ignored all questions from ‘Rzeczpospolita’, and the Ministry of Finance replied only that the names of the companies in the customs declaration are individual data, covered by secrecy,” the newspaper writes.

The newspaper also points out that “harvest begins in July in Poland” and “an international grain agreement that allows exports from Ukraine via the Black Sea may be broken.” “In such a situation, Poland will be flooded with another wave of Ukrainian grain,” we read.
