A Polish truck driver was caught attempting to smuggle 418 kilograms of cocaine into the UK, which was hidden in a cargo of frozen onion rings, reported British media, including the BBC. The drug has a market value of approximately £ 33 million.

The man is a 30-year-old who lives permanently in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. Piotr P. was detained on Thursday evening in Coquelles in northern France, in a zone where trucks going to Great Britain are cleared. On Saturday morning he appeared at the Folkestone District Court where he heard a drug smuggling charge.

“This is a really significant amount of drugs that will not go into circulation,” said Mark Howes of the regional office of the National Crime Agency (NCA).

“The confiscation will deprive the organized crime group responsible for the organized crime group of the profits that would fuel further crimes,” he added.
