The verdict was handed down on March 14, during a hearing at Preston Court. Eleanor Williams, who lives in Barrow-in-Furness in the English county of Cumbria, has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison. As explained by Sky News, in January the court found the 22-year-old guilty of, among other things, falsification of evidence to prove that she was the victim of rape. During the trial, the prosecution pointed out that the three wrongly accused men attempted suicide after their lives turned into “hell on earth”.

“It is worrying that[Williams – ed.]shows no signs of remorse,” Judge Robert Altham said in justifying the verdict. He added that it was not entirely clear why the woman made the accusations, which the judge said were “completely made up”. “Until she decides to reveal the reason for her lies, we won’t know why she did it,” Altham concluded.
