From this Friday, October 1, the rules for entering the UK will change. Travelers will need to present a valid passport. An exception to this rule will apply to people with settled or settled status in the UK, explained the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Currently, it is possible to cross the border of Great Britain with an identity card or passport. From October 1, your only option will be a valid passport. Therefore, representatives of the ministry advise that before leaving, make sure that the document is in sufficiently good technical condition and that it allows you to verify your identity. As we read on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, persons with settled status should, as a rule, cross the British border on the basis of an identity document linked to their digital settled profile. “If you change your ID, you should immediately update your details by logging into your digital settled profile” – it was noted. In this case, entry on the basis of an ID card will be possible at least until the end of 2025.

“After October 1, 2021, it will be possible to leave the UK to Poland on the basis of an ID card, as long as the airline or another carrier accepts this type of identity document as a travel document” – added. The changes are a consequence of Brexit.

The British Home Office said a few weeks ago that 1.1 million Polish citizens had applied for settled status or pre-settled status, of which 1.007 million had been processed by 30 June, and of those 97 percent ended with the award of status.

Entry to England – new rules

This is not the only change in travel that will come into force in the coming days. Due to the pandemic from October 4 from 4 when traveling to England, the traffic light system, which informs about the covid situation in a given country, will be replaced by one red list – high epidemic risk countries.

This means that all places not in the red list are automatically considered safe. “The rules for entering from countries that are not on the red list will depend on whether you are fully vaccinated or not” – we read on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
