ITV News reports that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a birthday party during the first coronavirus lockdown, in June 2020. Earlier, the British press reported on other social gatherings on Downing Street while the country was under strict restrictions.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a birthday party during the first coronavirus lockdown, when indoor socializing was banned, ITV News reported on Monday. According to the broadcaster, the prime minister’s wife, Carrie Johnson, participated in the preparations for the party on June 19, and up to 30 people attended the event.

In response to these allegations, Johnson’s office in a statement sent to ITV stated: “A group of employees briefly gathered in the office room to wish the prime minister all the best. The prime minister was there for less than 10 minutes.”

A report on informal get-togethers and events on Downing Street is due this week. Many Conservative MPs make their decision whether or not to send a motion of no confidence in Johnson.

In mid-January, the Daily Mirror revealed that alcohol meetings, dubbed “guilty Fridays”, were held regularly at the British Prime Minister’s office on Downing Street and continued after covid restrictions were introduced, when social gatherings were banned.

Earlier, the British press reported on other social gatherings on Downing Street while the country was under severe restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.
