Russia’s elite 1st Guards Tank Army has suffered heavy casualties in Ukraine and, despite being reinforced with mobilized reservists, remains understaffed, the British Defense Ministry said on Thursday.
In its daily intelligence update, the British ministry said that elements of the Russian 1st Guards Tank Army were probably deployed along the defensive line near the village of Svatowe in the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine.
“The supposedly elite unit suffered heavy losses in the earlier stages of the war, including during the withdrawal from Kharkiv Oblast in September 2022. It has now probably been reinforced with mobilized reservists, but still remains significantly below its sanctioned manpower of over 25,000 soldiers,” the ministry said. defense.
The resort added that Russia has now completed a system of nearly continuous trenches for 60 km between Svatowo and the Russian border, but their depth remains unclear.
