Piotr G., a well-known Polish Catholic priest who has been serving in Great Britain for many years – in the past also as an exorcist – was accused of committing 10 sexual crimes against minors – the Catholic diocese of Portsmouth in the south of England announced on Monday.

As explained in the diocese's announcement, the charges relate to the years 2002-2008, when Father Piotr G. served on the island of Jersey, a British crown dependency in the English Channel.

It was also reported that he has not served since the allegations surfaced and the diocese is fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. The police accuse the priest of committing eight acts of sexual immorality against children and two sexual assaults against children.

In recent years, Fr. Piotr G. was the parish priest of St. Joseph in Reading, approx. 50 km west of London. For 10 years, in parallel with his regular priestly service, he was engaged in exorcisms, which aroused considerable controversy, also in Poland.

In 2017, the Płock diocese issued a statement saying that he did not have formal consent to perform the service of an exorcist, and by posing as an exorcist, he engaged in practices that should not be used.

Father Piotr G. regularly led retreats (including online ones) and conferences, and often spoke in the media on topics related to the Catholic faith. His controversial views have often been the subject of discussions on the Internet, including with the participation of representatives of the Polish Episcopate.
