Prince Andrew, son of Elizabeth II, rejects all the allegations in Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit and wants a jury trial, according to documents filed in a New York court by his lawyers on Wednesday. Judge Lewis Kaplan has tentatively scheduled a hearing between September and December this year.

Last August, 38-year-old Virginia Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against Prince Andrew, claiming that in 2001, when she was 17, he was left by him sexually abused.

Giuffre – then named Roberts – was one of a large group of girls who had been lured by the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein with promises to work and then offered to his influential friends. One of them was supposed to be Prince Andrew, who consistently denies this.

In a document filed with the court on Wednesday, Prince Andrzej’s lawyers formally presented his response to the allegations, which denied that he had sexually abused Giuffre. The seven-page document is the prince’s first formal response to Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit. His lawyers referred to all of the more than 70 points in the lawsuit, either by contradicting them or pointing out that there was insufficient evidence for this.

The document also contains 12 arguments of the defense that the claim should be rejected, including because Giuffre is an Australian resident, too much time has passed, because of “her own misconduct” and because she waived her right to file a lawsuit after signing a settlement with Epstein.

Prince Andrzej’s right-wing argued that in view of the agreement signed by Giuffre in 2009, when for 500,000 dollars has waived its claims against Epstein and “any other person or entity who might be included as a potential defendant,” her suit should be dismissed.

Two weeks ago, however, New York City judge Lewis Kaplan disagreed with these arguments and ruled that it should continue. The document filed on Wednesday ends with the conclusion: “Prince Andrew hereby requests a jury trial on all the causes of the suit set out in the lawsuit.”

Judge Kaplan had already pre-scheduled a hearing between September and December this year.
