Concerns have been raised that the teenager was targeted “because she was transgender”, The Independent reported. Mike Evans, however, was quoted on the Cheshire Police website as saying that “at this time there is no evidence to suggest that the circumstances of Brianna’s death are related to hate”. The police in one of the entries on Twitter appealed to “avoid speculation on the Internet”. The reason given was that any news on the web “could affect Brianna’s family and friends”.
