The bird imitated the sound of a police siren in the English county of Oxfordshire. The animal managed to almost perfectly reproduce the characteristic sound of a car passing by with a signal. As officers confirmed on social media, this is not a late April Fool's joke.

Police officers in Bicester, Oxfordshire, had a moment of surprise this week when they suddenly heard the sound of a police siren. It closely resembled the sound of a patrol car with its siren, but none of the units used a siren. The officers even suspected that one of the police cars might have broken down.

This is not a joke

As it turned out, the source of the howling was not a broken system, but… a bird sitting in a nearby tree. The animal, which most likely lives near the outpost, has learned the steady sound and started imitating it.

– This is 100% true, not a late April Fool's Day joke – said officers on social media.

There are many species of mimetic birds in the world, i.e. those that can imitate various sounds, from passing vehicles to human speech. Among them are African-American parrots, warblers, starlings and the aptly named mockingbirds. Unfortunately, it was not possible to determine what species the “singer” from Bicester belonged to.
