Owsiak “should have been in a good shape”
Professor Bohdan Maruszewski, a children's cardiac surgeon and co -creator of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, was asked on Saturday in “Facts after Facts” on TVN24, about the well -being of the head of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Jerzy Owsiakwho reported that he had flu and did not appear on Thursday at a press conference.
– I have good news. He feels better – he said. – Jurek behaved very rationally. First of all, he lay down, took the drugs that the doctors rewrote him, he was examined – said Maruszewski. He added that on Sunday “he should be in good shape”.
Maruszewski: These are very measurable benefits, and specifically it is the lives of thousands of children
Maruszewski was also asked why the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity plays for the fifth time, which is hematology and children's oncology.
He emphasized that when deciding on the choice of goal, “we are primarily guided by the opinion of experts.” He reminded that the first final in this matter took place in 1996. “Then we bought magnetic resonance imaging for the Children's Health Center,” he said.
As he said, “we have obtained a lot since then”, but he emphasized that experts indicate that “treatment areas are developing, i.e. surgery, oncological neurosurgery and (…) a new medical technology appears there.”
Maruszewski pointed out that “in Poland, over 80 percent of cancer in children with the characteristics of rapid, early development of cancer is curable.”
– In 2016, 80 percent of children with acute leukemia managed to heal in Poland – he said. He mentioned that then he met with experts, including Professor Wojciech MÅ‚ynarski, the president of the Polish Society of Oncology and Pediatric Hematology.
– They convinced us: If you invest in the latest diagnostic techniques, molecular medicine, genetics, we are able to improve survival in children with acute leukemia by 10 percent within a few years – he said. And it succeeded.
– It is worth investing in modern equipment, it is worth investing in medicine, because these are very measurable benefits, and specifically it is the lives of thousands of children – emphasized the co -creator of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
– The role of non -governmental organizations dealing with medicine in the richest countries in the world is to introduce innovative methods, the latest devices, such devices that do not fit into system solutions until we show how they change the quality of treatment – he said.
MÅ‚ynarski: We need new equipment
Professor MÅ‚ynarski said that “we are a country where he treats very well when it comes to cancer in children.”
– Of course, we need new equipment all the time, because progress in the field of oncology in general, but pediatrics above all is very large – he emphasized.
He added that since the last final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity “a lot has changed” in this matter.
– What Owsiak and a whole group of people do, all of us, as part of the finals, causes that we are always able to look a little above the average, or at all to pierce some glass ceiling, which we see in children's oncology, but probably in most specializations ( which are the WOÅšP target – ed.) – he said.
