With the help of a helicopter, eight Poles were rescued after their sailboat sank near the island of Levita in the Aegean Sea, the Greek portal Protothema reported on Monday.
Strong wind, 7 on the Beaufort scale
According to local media, the French-flagged vessel sank for unknown reasons 5.5 kilometers from an uninhabited island in the Dodecanese archipelago. Winds of force 7 on the Beaufort scale were blowing in the area.
The Poles, who managed to board the support boat despite difficult weather conditions, called for help by calling 112. A unit of the Greek Coast Guard and a navy frigate were dispatched to the site. The rescued were transported by air to the island of Kos. Nothing happened to anyone.
