According to the Greek authorities, Russia may be responsible for a series of recent cyberattacks on the public sector network, eKathimerini reported. The administration assured that there was no data leak.
DDoS attacks on the Greek public sector network have occurred in recent days. The first one, carried out on Thursday, led to disruptions in the functioning of resources using government domains. Further attacks on the network were carried out on Friday and Sunday.
Cybersecurity resilience test
As the authorities assured, there were no data leaks during the attacks, but they were a test of the resilience and effectiveness of Greek cybersecurity.
The services are investigating the circumstances of the attacks. The authorities believe that the perpetrators may be associated with Russian or state-backed entities. Using similar attacks seen in others NATO countries, Russia may seek to destabilize support for Ukraine – wrote the portal.
Deterioration of relations with Russia
After the Russian attack on Ukraine, relations between Russia and the traditionally friendly country Greece collapsed, and Russia included Greece in the group of the so-called hostile countries.
Public opinion polls show that Russophile attitudes are still present in the country – among the Greek far right and radical left. Athens supports Kyiv diplomatically, humanitarianly and militarily; the countries concluded a security cooperation agreement.
