This year, Greek beaches will be under drone surveillance. The local services began to use them to fight attempts by private entities to limit access to the coast.

“Large sections of the coast have been taken over by private companies that illegally restrict residents' access to beaches and often demand high fees for renting sun loungers,” emphasizes the Balkan Insight portal.

The first inspections using drones were carried out on Friday on the Halkidiki Peninsula in the north of the country, where there are many complaints about limited access to beaches and coast, the Ministry of Finance announced.

Reports in this matter can be submitted via a special free MyCoast application. Satellite images will also be used to analyze potential violations.

Entities restricting access to beaches may be subject to thousands of fines, and in more serious cases, companies may be ordered to suspend their operations.
