Fires in Greece

Fires are a common phenomenon in Greece, especially in the summer months, notes the Reuters news agency. According to the authorities, the situation has significantly worsened in recent years – the summers are extremely dry, windy and hot, which means that fires break out more often. Experts believe it is related to climate change.

Last year, a fire burning in northeastern Greece for 11 days destroyed an area larger than New York City and killed 20 people.
