The crew “carried out the protected evacuation and rescue of 48 foreigners, who have been transported to the port of Mytilene,” the island’s capital, the coast guard mentioned.

“Three of these rescued have been picked up by an ambulance and brought to the Basic Hospital of Mytilene for the supply of first support, the place they continue to be hospitalized,” it added.

The coast guard didn’t point out the ethnicities of the migrants, however a YouTube video it launched reveals most of them are Africans.

The packed inflatable vessel sank, the coast guard mentioned.

Greece has seen an increase in migrant arrivals from Turkey, principally by sea, in latest weeks amid extra clement summer time crusing situations.
