If we see black clouds, puffs of smoke, they certainly contain soot. If they contain soot, they will certainly contain the worst substances we can know – said Jakub Duszczyk, a chemist, toxicologist and specialist in environmental protection engineering, on TVN24. In Przylepa, a district of Zielona Góra, a landfill is on fire. The chemist stressed that people outside should go home and close the windows.
On Saturday afternoon in Przylepa, a district of Zielona Góra, a fire broke out in a hall where chemicals are stored. Clouds of smoke are visible from a distance, explosions are heard. According to firefighters, the situation is not under control, the firefighting operation may take many more hours. st. Capt. MSc. Arkadiusz Kaniak said that various chemicals were stored in barrels in the hall. “We are not able to say what the specific compounds were, but we know that we are dealing with dangerous substances,” he said.
Chemist: It’s important not to inhale combustion products
Dr. Engineer Jakub Duszczyk, a chemist and toxicologist, said in an interview with TVN24 that “if we have such powerful fireballs as we see in the recordings, we can certainly deal with flammable substances, so the waste that is there is certainly partly flammable or solvent substances.”

– Black clouds mean that the waste that is stored there is incompletely or incompletely combusted. And if we see black clouds, puffs of smoke, then surely such clouds contain soot. If they contain soot, they will certainly contain the worst substances we can know, i.e. polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and, or dioxins – he explained.
He added that “these substances easily accumulate in living organisms, preferably in adipose tissue.”
Duszczyk emphasized that it is very important not to “inhale combustion products”. He added that people outside should go home and close the windows.
