She was taking care of her eighteen-month-old son, she was drunk. The police launched an investigation. The woman, who has already heard the charges, faces up to five years in prison.

– A district officer from Grójec, during the round of the service area, together with the probation officer, went on a visit as part of the procedure regarding domestic violence, the so-called Blue Card – said Agnieszka Wójcik, press officer of the police in Grójec.

There, she found a 27-year-old woman who should look after her 18-month-old son.

– Unfortunately, the woman was drunk. The test showed over 1.7 per mille of alcohol in the body. In addition, it was established that improper handling of the child could cause an imminent danger of loss of life or serious damage to health, the policewoman added.

The court will decide the fate of the child

The woman was detained. The ambulance crew was called to check whether there was a need to hospitalize the child.

“He didn’t go to the hospital, but he didn’t stay home either. The boy was handed over to the family, and his fate will be decided by the court. The family court judge was notified of the situation, the policewoman described.

Allegations against the mother and police supervision

A resident of Grójec has already heard the allegation of exposing the child to the immediate danger of loss of life or serious damage to health, despite the obligation to care for her. The prosecutor applied a preventive measure to her in the form of police supervision. The court will decide her fate. She faces up to five years in prison.

In 2022, the Polish police initiated the “Blue Card” procedure 52,569 times. The number of people suspected of being victims of domestic violence is 71,631. The vast majority are women – 51,935 and minors – 10,982. There were 8,714 men. In the case of perpetrators, the vast majority were men – 55,426. There were women 6497, and minors 321.
