Gronowo Górne. A fire at a recycling plant has stopped train traffic

Plastics, including foils, are burning in the waste processing plant in Gronów Górny (Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship). The fire damaged the traction network and stopped the movement of trains on the nearby railway line between Elbląg and Bogaczewo. – Long-distance trains are directed to the route through Iława – railwaymen say.

Brigadier Krzysztof Karolkiewicz, the press officer of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Elbląg, informed us that the fire in Gronów Górny broke out at around 2 am. – The fire spread over an area of ​​approximately 150 square meters. At the moment, there are 21 guards on the site. Plastics are burning, including foils that are difficult to extinguish. There are no injured people – said Karolkiewicz on Thursday morning.

As she emphasizes, the fire is not spreading, it has been brought under control.

Detour through Iława

However, the fire damaged the traction network running nearby, and thus forced – as PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe informs about – stopping train traffic on the Elbląg-Bogaczewo route.

– The changes apply to trains running through the Elbląg station, among others towards Olsztyn, Tricity, Szczecin and Malbork. Long-distance trains of PKP Intercity are directed to the route via Iława. The regional carrier PolRegio has introduced a replacement bus service on the Elbląg-Bogaczewo section, PKP PLK announced in the announcement.

As noted, travelers are informed about changes at stations and stops as well as on trains. PKP PLK also informed that the repair of the catenary damaged during the fire will start immediately, when the working conditions are safe.
