Fallow deer made their home in Grudziądz (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship). The animals eat flower beds in the blink of an eye. Officials spread their hands and count losses in thousands of zlotys.

After analyzing the video material from the city monitoring, it was possible to determine who was behind the damage to flower beds in the city park at ul. Haller in Grudziądz.

– Fallow deer appear in early spring, when they sense the shoots of plants, gnawing them as soon as they come out of the ground. We have felt their presence particularly painfully recently in the municipal park on Hallera Street. It is the city center, but connected to the city forests. In particular, they destroy our annual plantings in the park, which is a historic building, tells us Izabela Piwowarska, director of the Municipal Recreation and Leisure Center in Grudziądz.

Officials are counting losses

Officials have a headache because the losses caused by animals amount to several thousand zlotys.

– Fallow deer ate a very large number of flowers. Losses amount to several thousand zlotys. Plant material is not cheap, and the work of the workers who planted these plants should also be added. What they do not like, have been broken and trampled underfoot, so the losses are really painful for the city – emphasizes Piwowarska.

In 2016, the fallow deer was caught for the first time. Officials then explained that the animals posed a threat to themselves and the drivers. Every year, several dozen of these animals are caught and transported to Bory Tucholskie
