Sejny police officers detained a 38-year-old man for animal abuse. On his farm in Gryszkańce (Podlaskie Voivodeship), officers found 19 dead cattle and a neglected dog that had been taken to a shelter. The man faces up to three years in prison.

Police officers from Sejny were informed by the Poviat Veterinary Officer that there is a farm in one of the properties in Gryszkańce, the owner of which most likely neglects animals. Police officers who arrived on the scene saw a horrific sight of several dead cattle.

Police said the dead animals were chained to posts in the barn. The place where they were located was very neglected, dirty, and the excrement was not removed.

A total of 19 cattle and a dog were found on the property without access to water and food. According to the information the police received from the veterinarian, the animals were starved and dehydrated.

The detainee explained to the officers that all the animals that were in the barn died in April within two weeks. The man was arrested and taken into police custody. He was charged with animal abuse. This is punishable by up to three years in prison.
