W European Parliament on Tuesday there is a meeting on continuing military and financial support for Ukraine. The second part of the debate included the following speakers: Michael Szczerba.
– Russia is the single most significant threat to peace and security in Europe. This threat will not go away as long as Putin's criminal regime is in power. The only thing that could threaten Putin's momentum is his strategic defeat in Ukraine – said the PO and European People's Party MEP.
The PO MEP appealed to introduce a “true defense union” in response to Russia's war economy. He proposed renewing the “scale of military support for Kiev” and ensuring the protection of Ukrainian skies.
Grzegorz Braun and his debut in the European Parliament. He started in his own style
After Szczerb, the Belgian MEP took the floor Kathleen van Brempt. The representative of the alliance of socialists and democrats emphasized the importance of support for Ukraine. She also expressed concern about the possible victory Donald Trump in the US presidential elections. She appealed for unity in the European Parliament in action against To Vladimir Putin.
The MEP decided to counter the statement Gregory Braun. A politician not affiliated with any European faction took advantage of the so-called blue cardwhich gives you 30 seconds to ask a question.
Braun began his speech in the plenary hall in his own style – but instead of the Polish “God bless you”, he opted for the Latin “Jesus Christ be praised” (Praised be Jesus Christ.)
– Are we dealing with some kind of war council? Will we really fight? For what cause? With whom? With what resources? You are not helping Ukraine by prolonging this war. You are not helping the Ukrainian population, which is seeking shelter and fleeing its country – said the MEP in English.
Grzegorz Braun in the European Parliament. His microphone was muted
Braun's speech was interrupted by the chairperson of the meeting after the allotted 30 seconds had elapsed, and when the MEP continued, his microphone was muted.
Van Bremt said that the politician “did not ask any question” in reality. She assured that the MEPs had been united against Putin's regime since the beginning of the Russian aggression. She added that Ukrainians want to be part of a free Europe, not the Russian Federation, where “there is no democracy and freedom of speech.”
This was not Braun's only statement. during Tuesday's session. The Polish MEP again used the “30 seconds” after the statement of the Italian Alberico Gambino. The conservative representative recalled the words of the Italian Prime Minister George Meloniwhich stated that the fate of Ukraine is linked to the fate of all of Europe. – Supporting Ukraine is not only a matter of solidarity, it is also a matter of national interest for Italy. Defending Ukraine is defending the rule of law and stability in Europe – the politician added.
Grzegorz Braun gave the Italian “advice”. “Please do not involve others”
Reacting to the Italian's words, Grzegorz Braun stated that the last time Italy sent its forces to the Eastern Front was in 1941. After this statement, the vice-chairman Esteban Pons tried to interrupt the speech of a Polish MEP.
– Do you expect your government to repeat this maneuver? Do you yourself intend to fight in Ukraine, for any cause? If you want to go there, God bless you, but please do not involve others, please do not cause suffering to Ukrainians. – Braun continued.
After the fact, it turned out that Pons tried to interrupt the speech because… the translation from Polish to Italian did not work and Gambino was unable to understand the question. Braun repeated his statement almost in its entirety.
– I think I've made my point clear. Ms. Meloni said that Ukraine should be supported by sending weapons only for defensive purposes – the Italian MEP finally assured.
