On Saturday evening, an armed man drove a car through a gate at Hamburg Airport, forcing staff to close the airport hub. The incident was reported by the daily Die Welt.
The daily “Die Welt”, citing a local police spokesman, reported that “the man fired shots into the air twice.” The Süddeutsche Zeitung daily reported that the incident took place around 8 p.m. It also reported, citing police findings, that there may be two children in the car.
According to the daily, the man’s wife has already contacted the police regarding the possible abduction of the child.
Around 10:30 p.m., the Hamburg police wrote on social media that officers were taking action at the airport and that the man could have taken hostages.
