Hamilton stands out in F1 along with his honesty over errors, says Wolff

Hamilton made a uncommon error within the Italian Grand Prix when he unintentionally interlocked wheels with Piastri on the second chicane of their struggle for place and so they made contact.

With Hamilton clearly having been at fault for what occurred, Wolff stated he had no qualms with the sanction that was handed down.

“It was a mistake,” he stated. “I feel a five-second penalty for that’s what the menu says, this stuff occur.

“It is exhausting racing if you wish to overtake right here, and we have seen just a few of those. So yeah, it is justified.”

Hamilton himself stated there was no second thought given to saying sorry as soon as he realised he had made a mistake.

“I apologised as a result of it was clearly my fault,” he stated. “It naturally wasn’t intentional. I obtained up alongside and simply misjudged the hole that I needed to the correct, and clipped him.

“It may occur any time, however I knew shortly afterwards it will need to have been my fault. So, I wished to verify he knew that it was not intentional. That is what gents do, proper?”

Piastri stated after the race that he accepted Hamilton’s apology.

“I feel [he] simply moved a bit too far to the correct,” defined the Australian. “However I feel it’s extremely simple to do in that nook, it’s extremely slender.
