Hanna Machińska is no longer the Deputy Ombudsman

The Ombudsman, Professor Marcin Wiącek, relieved Dr. Hanna Machińska of the duties of her deputy – “Fakty” received this information. Professor Wojciech Brzozowski is to become Machińska’s successor.

Hanna Machińska has been the Deputy Ombudsman (RPO) since 2017. Earlier, in the years 1991-2017, she was the director of the Office of the Council of Europe in Warsaw.

Machińska has experience and achievements in implementing European legal standards, including those concerning protection, into the Polish legal order human rights and anti-discrimination law. It is committed to the fight against discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance. She is the author of a number of publications on the protection of human rights. While performing her function in the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, she was involved, among others, in activities for the rights of migrants, which was particularly visible during the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border.

Potential successor

Machińska is to be replaced by Wojciech Brzozowski – head of the Department of Religious Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, where he is a professor. Brzozowski is the author of several dozen publications in the field of religious law, constitutional law and human rights. He was elected a member of the Legal Sciences Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the 2020–2023 term.
