36 percent of Poles believe that during the eight years of PiS rule, the quality of health care in Poland has deteriorated, according to a Kantar poll for “Fakty” TVN and TVN24. Additionally, 32 percent of respondents claim that nothing has changed in this regard in recent years. However, now – during the campaign – the announcements of both KO and PiS politicians show that things will get better.
In the latest survey conducted by Kantar for “Fakty” TVN and TVN24, respondents were asked how the quality of health care has changed during the 8 years of PiS rule.
Most surveyed – 36 percent – stated that during the 8 years of PiS rule, the quality of the health care system has deteriorated. According to 32 percent of respondents – it has not changed, and 22 percent of respondents stated that quality improved.
10 percent respondents chose the option: I don’t know/it’s hard to say.
The latest telephone survey was carried out by Kantar on September 5-6, 2023 on a nationwide, representative sample of 1,000 people over 18 years of age.
This means that a total of as many as 68 percent of surveyed Poles believe that the quality of health care has not improved over the last eight years.
The promises of politicians
However, the biggest political players assure that things will improve now. Certainly soon – according to the announcement and regardless of who wins the election – we will no longer have to queue to register at clinics, because we will sign up for a visit via the Internet, and the system will remind us of the date by SMS. This is what PiS and the Civic Coalition promise.
According to politicians’ promises, there will also be more money for health care from various sources. In 2024, it is expected to be as much as 190 billion, or maybe even more. – The two billion they want to spend again on public television will go to the fight against cancer – announces Donald Tusk.
PiS, in turn, reminds that in four years the state will spend as much as seven percent of GDP on medicine. The money for health insurance premiums cannot be spent on anything else, even though there is political will to do so. – There is a little lack of funds for various good ideas from the Ministry of Sport, and funds for the health service will be rapidly increased – says Jarosław Kaczyński.
Under the pretext of health prevention, PiS proposes to spend some of these funds on sports. – I don’t want to upset health care representatives, but couldn’t there be some combination here? Because some of the ideas in this program (from the Ministry of Sport – editor’s note) are really very good – explains Deputy Prime Minister Kaczyński.
One way or another – there will be more money for treatment, so the Civic Coalition promises to subsidize, among others, school dentistry and unload queues to hospitals. – We will abolish the limits in the National Health Fund for hospitals. No one will ever be sent back from hospital because the limits have expired, announces Bartosz Arłukowicz from PO. How much does it cost? KO doesn’t say that.

Inefficient system
PiS announces the organization of hematological and neurological treatment. Oh, and hearty meals in hospitals. This is the second attempt to improve meals. PiS faced this for the first time four years ago.
Both parties agree to invest in long-term care and health care in general at the basic level: districts and family doctors.
PiS and PO politicians are very honest. Both of them had already been in power for eight years and during that time they were unable to carry out any major reforms in health care. So now they don’t propose anything like that in their election programs. Although the hospital system is inefficient and constantly runs into billions of debts.
