HBO Max has released a trailer for the series “The Idol”, which is expected to appear on the platform later this year. The main characters are played by the popular Canadian singer The Weeknd and actress and model Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny. The production will be directed by Sam Levison, the creator of the hit “Euphoria”.
What is “The Idol” about? Aspiring Pop Singer (Lily-Rose Depp) has an affair with a mysterious Los Angeles nightclub owner (The Weeknd). When she gets to know him better, it turns out that the man is the leader of a religious sect. According to the trailer released last Saturday by HBO Max, the series will not lack nightlife, drugs and sex.

The main actor and co-producer of the series is Abel Tesfaye, a singer known under the pseudonym The Weeknd. This will be his second on-screen appearance, making his debut in Rough Diamonds with Adam Sandler and Julia Fox in 2019. However, it was a cameo role, so Tesfaye will play the lead actor for the first time.
Lily-Rose Depp will star alongside the pop star in the new HBO series Max. The daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis has already starred in several films, incl. “Voyagers”, “Dancer”, “Król” or “Planetarium”. Everything seems to indicate that the appearance in “The Idol” may be the highlight of her career so far. HBO Max has not revealed the entire cast yet, but the information from the American “Newsweek” shows that it will include, among others, Troye Sivan, Jennie Kim, Debby Ryan, Rachel Sennott and Steve Zissis.
The hit status of the series is to be ensured not only by the cast, which is especially attractive to young audiences, but also by casting all episodes as a director. Sam Levison, the creator of the hit “Euphoria”. The author of the script is Joseph Epstein. The production is the result of cooperation between HBO and A24 studio.
The exact release date is not known yet, but “The Idol” will probably go to HBO Max at the end of this year.
