Police officers from the District Headquarters in Kraków (Małopolskie Voivodeship) detained a 38-year-old man wanted by an arrest warrant to serve a four-year prison sentence during a road check. A man was convicted of a knife attack on a jeweler in Niepołomice.

The wanted 38-year-old was detained on Tuesday by a police patrol in Batowice near Krakow. The press officer of the district police headquarters in Krakow, Justyna Fil, informed about the case on Wednesday.

– During the patrol, the officers noticed the driver of a Volkswagen, which, upon seeing the police car, turned sharply into a subordinated road. The suspicious behavior of the driver prompted the uniformed officers to check the driver, the policewoman reported.

After stopping the car for inspection, it turned out that it was driven by a 38-year-old resident of the Krakow poviat. A check of his name in the police database showed that the man had his driving privileges revoked and that he was wanted on a court-issued warrant for arrest and detention pending a four-year prison sentence.

The court sentenced him to such a sentence robbery of a jeweler in Niepołomice in December 2020. The perpetrator then entered a jewelry salon and, pretending to be interested in buying a watch, lured the seller further into the salon to the second room, where he overpowered her by threatening her with a knife. During that time, his accomplice took seven pallets with gold chains worth about $350,000. After all, the attackers fled. Both were detained by Krakow policemen three months later.

As announced by Fil, the 38-year-old will be transported to a correctional facility, where he will serve a previously imposed sentence of four years in prison for assault with a knife. Soon he will also be charged with the crime of driving a vehicle with a revoked driving license, which is punishable by up to two years in prison.
