A 22-year-old from the Myślenice district will be charged with damaging a piggy bank standing on the Main Market Square in Krakow. The man was arrested a few hours after the incident. He explained to the police why he was trying to get to donations using paving stones.
The piggy bank, which collects money for the renovation of Krakow's monuments, was damaged on Sunday evening.
A few hours later – as reported by the press officer of the police headquarters, Comm. Piotr Szpiech – the perpetrator of vandalism was arrested on one of the city streets. The officers located him thanks to, among other things, recordings from street surveillance. Cameras recorded a man who used paving stones to damage the glass of a piggy bank.
“He didn't want to shoplift”
The vandal turned out to be a 22-year-old resident of Myślenice County. He was charged with attempted burglary and damage to property. These crimes are punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
According to the police, during interrogation at the police station, the suspect admitted to destroying the piggy bank. He explained that he wanted to get to the money because he didn't want to shoplift.
The characteristic piggy bank has been standing on Krakow's Main Square for years. It collects donations to support the renovation of monuments carried out by the National Fund for the Restoration of Krakow Monuments.
