He got lost in Poznań, he was found in Warsaw. The senior didn't know how he got here

The city guards received a report from the security of one of the buildings on Ficowskiego Street, who was waiting with a lost, elderly man. He had no documents, phone, or anything that could help contact his family.

After a longer conversation, the man said he “needed to shave,” gave the city guards his exact address, and asked if they could take him home. However, when he tried to explain to the officers how to get to the front of the building, doubts began to arise.

– The directions given by the man did not fit the surroundings of the capital's Sienkiewicza Street at all. Based on the neighbouring streets he gave, we managed to establish that he meant Poznań – says junior inspector Agnieszka Ferenc-Chrześcijańska, who, together with senior inspector Krzysztof Gryz, took care of the senior.

The man was surprised that he was in Warsaw. The guards were unable to extract any details that would allow them to contact his family, until the senior finally mentioned a cousin from a village near Poznań.

– We latched onto this information and it turned out to be a bull's eye – says junior inspector Agnieszka Ferenc-Chrześcijańska. – We called the village mayor, who, despite the late hour, agreed to help us. In this way, after making a dozen or so more calls, we managed to contact the cousin of the missing senior citizen.

The guards arranged with her to pick up her uncle at the Poznań station. The officers bought a ticket, provisions for the journey and took the senior citizen to the Central Station in Warsaw. There, thanks to cooperation with the police and station security, the man was directed to the appropriate train. The officers also asked the depot manager to keep an eye on the elderly man. It was only after a dozen or so hours that the guard from Warsaw received confirmation that – despite trying to leave the depot before the destination station – the wandering senior citizen had finally arrived home.

A card or a sewn-in garment with the phone number of the person to contact in case of problems of the owner makes it much easier to help in the event of their disappearance or accident.
