“He shouted that it was a robbery, hit her, dragged her to the back, punched her in the face and threatened to kill her”

The robbery took place on August 14 in a pawn shop in Targówek. – A few minutes before the shop closed, a tall masked man aged around 30-40 entered the shop. When the employee announced that it was already closed, he shouted that “this is a robbery”, hit her, dragged her to the back, punched her in the face, choked her and attacked her with gas. He also threatened the woman with death, pointing an object resembling a gun at her. The attacker wanted to get to the safe, but was scared away by a random person who entered the shop. While escaping, he stole a purse belonging to the cashier, which contained a wallet, documents and a phone – describes in a statement Senior Superintendent Paulina Onyszko from the North Praga police. – Two security guards responded to the alarm, which the woman managed to activate after the attacker had escaped. The aggressive man also attacked them with gas – she adds.

The injured pawn shop employee was taken to hospital. The next day she gave a statement at the police station on Chodecka Street. The police from the investigation department began to analyze it.

Police officers from the Targówek police station, from the moment they received information about the attack, identified and questioned witnesses to the event, conducted an inspection, secured traces, and detectives checked the area around the pawn shop. The police officers very quickly established a description of the man who was supposed to have carried out this brutal attack.

A few days later, they detained a 35-year-old suspect from Targówek. During a search, they seized two pepper spray cans from him.

The District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw Praga Północ has initiated an investigation into the case. The police took the detainee there for questioning. The prosecutor charged the 35-year-old with attempted robbery, in conjunction with robbery, causing bodily harm and aggravated theft, and filed a motion to the court for his temporary arrest. The court granted the motion.

The man will spend the next three months in custody. He faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
