A resident of the Brazilian city of Guaruja in the state of Sao Paulo came to a hospital emergency room on Thursday with a venomous snake in his hand, causing panic among the facility's staff. He had been bitten by the reptile minutes earlier.

The 58-year-old man reported that the snake suddenly appeared at his workplace and bit him. Without thinking, he grabbed it by the head through a plastic bag. He explained that he took the snake with him to the hospital to quickly identify the species and take the appropriate antivenom. According to the g1 portal, citing the medical services of the state of Sao Paulo, the staff of the hospital in Guaruja identified the snake as a jararaca and then released it into the wild.

One of the most aggressive

The jararaca is one of the most venomous snakes in Brazil, which is home to 435 species of snakes, 65 of which are venomous. The Butantan Institute in Sao Paulo, which studies venomous animals, considers the jararaca to be one of the most aggressive snakes in all of South America. According to Brazil's health authorities, an average of more than 31,000 snake attacks on humans occur in the country each year, with more than 120 people dying. The jararaca is responsible for most of the bites.
