8 years and two months in prison and a lifetime driving ban are the sentences 33-year-old Łukasz P. He heard today in the District Court in Częstochowa (Silesian Voivodeship). The man drove into a taxi driver who was getting into his car after finishing the course. After causing the accident, the perpetrator fled the scene on foot. He had over three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The court found Łukasz P. guilty of both offenses. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison for causing a fatal accident, 1 year and 6 months for driving while intoxicated, and sentenced to a total of 8 years and 2 months in prison.

He was also banned from driving for life. The man is also to pay the wife and son of the deceased taxi driver PLN 30,000 in compensation and pay PLN 8,000 to the Victims’ Assistance Fund and Post-penitentiary Assistance. He was also ordered to pay the costs of the proceedings.

The prosecutor’s office, which demanded a 12-year sentence for the accused, will submit a request for a written justification of the sentence, which is an announcement of the appeal.
