The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will visit Poland on Friday together with the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander De Croo. Together they will take part in a tripartite meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The head of government said in the Sejm on Thursday that everything indicates that we will finally hear that Poland has unblocked funds from the KPO.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk he said at Thursday’s press conference that one of the topics of conversation will be issues related to the situation beyond our eastern border. He also announced that during his statements to the media he would publicly comment on, among others, to the need to correct European policy when it comes to the situation on the border with Ukraine.

The head of government emphasized that “on the Polish border with Ukraine, we protect the interests of not only Polish farmers,” because it is a European border. – In almost every European country, farmers and producers are rebelling against some of the regulations and some of the rules that have been adopted – he noted.

– I would like this to finally reach the awareness of all participants of this phenomenon, this problem, without exception. It is a common obligation of the EU to regulate it in such a way that the European market, and especially from our point of view, Polish farmers are not in the situation they are in today, he said.

Possible unblocking of EU funds for Poland

In turn, during the debate on the vote of no confidence in the Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar the Prime Minister announced that von der Leyen’s visit is also related to issues related to unlocking EU funds for Poland.

– Everything indicates that on Friday we will learn that after years of delay and weeks of extremely intense work, mainly by Minister Adam Bodnar, we will finally hear from representatives of European institutions that Poland has unblocked funds from the KPO – Prime Minister Tusk informed the Sejm on Thursday.

On Tuesday in Brussels, Bodnar presented a plan for reforming the justice system in Poland, which is intended to lead to the completion of the procedure under Art. 7. Treaty on European Union towards Poland. The plan was positively received by member states. European Commission believes that it is realistic, but the completion of the procedure depends on its implementation.

The European Commission initiated the procedure under Art. 7. towards Poland in 2017 in response to the reform of the justice system introduced by the then government.

During her visit to Warsaw, the head of the European Commission will be accompanied by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom Belgium Alexander De Croo, who will also meet the president Andrzej Duda in the Presidential Palace.
