Head of the police union: Marcin Romanowski is not a priority for the Polish police. In the capital police station alone we have 4,000 wanted posters

The head of the Main Board of the Police NSZZ, Commissioner Rafał Jankowski, and attorney and social advisor to the Prosecutor General Radosław Baszuk spoke in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 about the case PiS MP Marcin Romanowski. The prosecutor's office issued an arrest warrant for him after the police failed to determine his whereabouts in order to arrest him.

Jankowski was asked if he was surprised that the search for Romanowski was taking so long. “No, I'm not surprised,” he replied. – This situation is truly unprecedented from the point of view of commentators on social life, the media and politicians. But I must tell you how it is actually done, he said.

– The police are looking for many people. I know that retaining MP Romanowski is a priority for many circles. But in the capital headquarters itself, in the entire garrison, we have 4,000 arrest warrants (…), 2,000 arrest warrants and 8,000 whereabouts determinations, which generally differs from the previous ones in that we determine the place of residence, but we do not arrest the person – he said.

– So MP Romanowski is not a priority for the Polish police – he said.

The commissioner pointed out that “we know that MP Romanowski is not a serial killer, we know that he is not a pedophile and he is not a rapist.” When asked if it meant that he was not a threat to social order at the moment, he replied: – That's right.

– For the capital's police officers, this is just another number on their arrest list – he said.

At the same time, he pointed to staff shortages in the capital's headquarters. – Please believe me that the policemen who are engaged in the search will not put aside all other matters and will not suddenly start looking for MP Romanowski – said the TVN24 guest.

Jankowski went on to say that “everyone knows the face of MP Romanowski, if someone sees him on patrol, they will stop him, because we are there to stop MP Romanowski.” He stressed that “he is not a guy who will pose a threat on the streets of Polish cities.” – I am convinced that the Polish police will arrest him, but whether it will last a week or two makes no difference to me – admitted the head of the Main Board of NSZZ Policemen.

Baszuk admitted that he “mostly agrees with the commissioner's statement.” – (Romanowski – ed.) This is not a priority for several reasons. The first reason, which has already been mentioned: Mr Romanowski does not threaten the life and health of his fellow citizens. And this should be taken into account when prioritizing tasks, he said.

– The second reason, in my opinion, is this: for several months we have been observing a kind of Brazilian soap opera with the arrest of Mr. Romanowski. It has different chapters and plot twists. Maybe someone is actually fascinated by it, but it lasts for months. What has changed is that we are dealing with a court decision on temporary arrest, the lawyer continued.

– However, please remember that until the date of issuance of this decision, MP Romanowski was at large and was not bound by the rigor of pre-trial detention – he pointed out.

According to him, “it is a matter of time before Mr. Romanowski is arrested.” – This will happen for various reasons. Please believe me, to be able to effectively hide from law enforcement agencies, first of all, you need to have a very specific type of skills – said Baszuk.

– Without taking anything away from Mr. Romanowski, I don't think he has these kinds of skills – he added. – Secondly, you need to have the means to do this, including economic means. And you need to have a group of people who will help with this – said the TVN24 guest.

Jankowski also commented on how long hiding might last. – A lot depends on the ability to hide and what the person who wants to hide knows, he said. He also noted that “Mr. Romanowski actually doesn't strike me as a guy who knows how to hide from the police.” “Besides, a guy who's been hiding for a long time will be caught soon,” he said.
