India is struggling with heatwaves. The temperature in the north of the country rose to almost 50 degrees Celsius. It's so hot that dead bats fall from the trees.

The carcasses of several bats were found on Tuesday in Nana Rao Park, located in the city of Kanpur in northern India. The animals died of dehydration and heat stroke.

– In Kanpur, the temperature ranges from 45 to 46 degrees Celsius. Bats are dehydrated by the heat, which causes their death. The hypothalamus in their brains cannot cope with the high temperature, said Dr. Anurag Singh, a veterinarian at Kanpur Zoo.

According to local media reports, people living near Nana Rao Park reported to the authorities about unpleasant odors coming from the bodies of dead bats lying on the ground and those still hanging in trees.
