Heavy Rain Warnings, Czarnecki Charged, Blinken in Warsaw: Things to Know

Prosecutors have charged Ryszard Czarnecki and his wife with corruption. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a series of meetings in Warsaw. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued warnings of heavy rains due to the approaching Genoese low. Here are five things to know on Friday, September 13.

1. Corruption charges against Ryszard Czarnecki and his wife

Prosecutors presented To Ryszard Czarnecki and his wife face two corruption charges. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison. Investigators believe they acted “jointly and in agreement.”

The allegations include, among others, accepting from the rector of Collegium Humanum “a financial benefit in the total amount of not less than PLN 92,221 and a personal benefit in the form of Emilia H. obtaining unreliable documents confirming the completion of postgraduate studies at this university”.

2. Heavy rain warnings

Rain will fall heavily in Poland for the next few days. This is all due to the Genoese low. It started raining heavily in the southwest on Thursday, and in the following hours there will be more and more rain.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued third, second and first degree warnings. Dense fog alerts were also announced.

3. Harris extends lead over Trump

Kamala Harris, Vice President USA and the Democratic presidential candidate increases her lead over her Republican rival, former President Donald Trump – results from survey conducted by Ipsos on behalf of Reuters.

Harris is expected to receive 47 percent of votes in the November election, while Trump is expected to receive 42 percent of votes.

Donald Trump said that will not agree to another debate with Kamala Harris. He claimed – contrary to the facts – that the polls showed he had won Tuesday's duel and did not need another one.

4. Blinken in Warsaw

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken During his visit to Warsaw, he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski.

Blinken was also at the Belweder Palace, where he talked with the president Andrzej Dudaand later met with the Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Blinken came to Poland straight from Kiev, where he announced a new support package Ukraine.

5. Dramatic scenes at the gas station

At one of the gas stations in Chałupki near Racibórz (Silesia), an aggressive 29-year-old citizen Czech threatened to set fire to the station.

When the police intervened, he poured gasoline on himself and the police and started a fire. The aggressive man was overpowered. Two officers were taken to hospital, their lives are not in danger.
