Hel, Jastarnia. Searching for a diver who did not surface after diving near the wreck

A diver who was participating in recreational diving went missing in the waters of the Bay of Puck near Jastarnia, near the ORP Ślązak wreck. Saturday's “active part of the search” ended. Activities will resume on Sunday.

Polish Rescue Radio received a report about a diver's accident at 10.59 am on Saturday (November 9). Sebastian Kluska, director of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service (SAR service), said that recreational diving was taking place around the wreck. – A group of divers descended into the water near the ORP Ślązak wreck. The diver from the last pair did not surface, he added.

As Rafał Goeck, spokesman for the Maritime Search and Rescue Service, said, the divers descended to a depth of approximately 27 m in the waters of the Bay of Puck. – At one point, they separated. They were supposed to meet on the surface at the agreed time, but only one diver surfaced – added Rafał Goeck. A search operation began on site and SAR, the Border Guard and the fire brigade were dispatched.

After 6.30 p.m., Kluska announced that “the active part of the search has been completed” and the units involved are returning to their bases. “The search will be resumed tomorrow,” announced the director of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service.

ORP Ślązak lies at the bottom at a depth of approximately 30 meters. The wreck was sunk near the port in Jastarnia.
