A helicopter carrying Iran’s president has been concerned in a “arduous touchdown”, Iranian state TV has stated.

President Ebrahim Raisi was travelling within the plane in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province on the time.

Rescue groups are reportedly heading to the scene.

State TV stated the incident occurred close to town of Jolfa, about 375 miles (600km) northwest of the capital Tehran.

Mr Raisi had been in Azerbaijan for the inauguration of a dam with the nation’s president, Ilham Aliyev.

The 63-year-old is a hard-liner and former head of the judiciary and a few analysts have advised he might at some point change Supreme Chief Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
