“Polish Derby” – this is how some fans and experts describe the matches of Lech Poznań and Legia Warszawa in recent years. While previous meetings of both teams were often not very exciting, this time it was completely different. At the stadium in Poznań we saw as many as seven goals, five of which were scored by the hosts. Legia suffered a very painful defeat, after which it was nine points behind Niels Frederiksen's team in the table.

What was the cause of the fire before the Lech – Legia match? Police hand over

A few hours before the start of the match, a very unpleasant incident took place. There was a fire in a truck semi-trailer near the Poznań Górczyn railway station. This was transported by a freight train, from which the fire spread to an adjacent wagon of another train. Legia Warszawa fans traveled in it.

– This fire caught fire to the passenger train standing right next to it, in which Legia Warszawa fans were traveling. About a thousand people were evacuated from the train – said junior brig. Kamil Witoszko, press officer of the Poznań Fire Department. Several fire brigade units arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished and fortunately no one was hurt.

“We are identifying the fans. We are determining the causes and course of this event,” the Greater Poland police said shortly after the incident. On the same day, officers checked as many as 834 people, trying to determine the cause of the fire. It turns out that it was most likely caused by the fans themselves who used flares.

– Surveillance recordings are secured. The fire probably broke out as a result of thrown flares – said on Sunday evening, the spokesman for the Wielkopolska Police, junior inspector Andrzej Borowiak, in an interview with TVN 24. We can only wait for official confirmation that will dispel any doubts.

After the spectacular victory, Lech Poznań is the leader of the Ekstraklasa with 34 points. Legia Warszawa is currently in fifth place with 25 points.
