Hezbollah reported that it attacked a military base in Israel with drones. This is to be a response to the raid carried out the day before in Tyre, which killed at least two people. According to sources in the Lebanese security forces, a field commander of Lebanese Hezbollah was among those killed.

Hezbollah, the Lebanese radical Shiite group, said it attacked a military base west of the Israeli city of Tiberias with drones on Wednesday in response to “assassinations” carried out by Israel. The attack came a day after the killing of a Hezbollah commander in the south Lebanon. The Israeli military did not comment on these reports.

Hezbollah said the attack targeted part of a surveillance system used by the Israeli Air Force and that the attack drones hit “precisely the limited targets and achieved what was wanted in this limited operation.”

At least two people were killed in Tire as a result of an Israeli airstrike, the Lebanese state news agency reported on Tuesday.

Two Lebanese security sources told Reuters that a field commander of Lebanese Hezbollah was among the dead. The Israeli military says the slain commander was responsible for attacks on Israeli civilians and territory since the Gaza war began in October.

This is the furthest attack on Israeli territory since Hezbollah began exchanging fire with Israel in parallel with the war in Gaza.

According to Reuters, more than 260 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon over the past seven months.
