There will be no change in the status of expressways into motorways, the Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk told the Polish Press Agency on Thursday. The issue of the possibility of changing the status of expressways into motorways – added the head of the MI – arose during discussions organized by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. – It is not GDDKiA, only the government can change the status of the road. The government has no such intentions, Adamczyk said.
– There will be no changes when it comes to renaming expressways into motorways – said the Minister of Infrastructure.
– Neither the Ministry of Infrastructure nor the government are discussing and – I think they will not be discussing – whether to increase the number of highways by transforming expressways – he added.
Adamczyk: There are no such intentions
The minister reminded that he made the decision to change the status of the road the Council of Ministersbecause it is the government that changes the relevant regulation on the road network in Poland.
It concerns the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure on detailed technical conditions for road signs and signals as well as road safety devices and the conditions for their placement on roads. This is the so-called The Red Book.
Discussions organized by GDDKiA
The Minister explained that recently there was information about the possibility of changing the status of expressways into motorways during engineering discussions organized by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
– Opinions on this subject were presented during an internal discussion in the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, the topic of which was road maintenance. (…) It is not GDDKiA, only the government, at the request of the minister of infrastructure, may change the status of the road. Currently, neither the Ministry of Infrastructure nor the government has any such intentions, assured the head of the ministry.
He also emphasized that there are no plans to change the speed limits on roads in Poland.
More toll roads for trucks?
As Adamczyk said, analyzes are currently being carried out regarding the possibility of expanding the network of roads covered by tolls for trucks.
– We conduct analyses. we conduct discussions, among others, with the National Revenue Administration, which supervises the road toll collection system for trucks. There is no decision on this today, he said.
The length of national roads in Poland is currently 19,000 km. 393 km, including 17,000 under the management of GDDKiA. 782 km. The total length of expressways in Poland is 4,000 km. 747.8 km, of which 2,000 are expressways. 972.3 km, highways are 1 thousand. 775.5 km, including 465 km of motorway concession sections.
