Police officers provided statistics on the number of accidents that occurred on Polish roads during the summer holidays. Most people died in Mazovia. According to the map updated daily by officers, these are drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
Commissioner Robert Opas noted that there will be more vehicles than usual on the roads to holiday resorts before the next holiday weekend. – Therefore, the most important task of services working to improve road safety is to ensure the smooth and safe movement of travelers – said the policeman.
During the weekend, as well as throughout the holidays, police officers will pay special attention to respecting road traffic regulations in the field of compliance with the permitted speed limits, the sobriety of drivers, the use of seat belts and the proper transport of children in vehicles.
He reported that during the holidays from June 24 to July 14, the police recorded 1,491 accidents on Polish roads (2021 – 1,735, 2020 – 1,692) in which 121 people died (2021 – 166, 2020 – 148) and 1,741 people were injured (2021 – 2,011, 2020 – 1,947).
The largest number of fatal accidents occurred in Mazowieckie, Łódzkie, Śląskie and Małopolskie voivodships. – Special attention should be paid to vulnerable road users, because 22 pedestrians, 24 motorcyclists and mopeds and 11 cyclists have died in these accidents since the beginning of the summer holidays – he said.
On tvnwarszawa.pl we report on the situation on the capital’s roads. As we reported, in mid-July on the national road number 7, in Niepiekła, a passenger car collided with a moose. A car passenger died on the spot. The driver was taken to the hospital. Three days earlier, a fatal accident occurred in Zaborówko near Błonie. Initial police findings showed that the driver of a passenger car had hit a tree. The doctor pronounced the man dead.
In turn, at the beginning of July in the village of Wygoda-Smoszewska, a truck and a passenger car collided on the national road number 62. The car caught fire as a result of the collision. His driver was revived. It was impossible to save him.
A few days earlier, a tragic accident took place at the intersection of Patriotów and Żegańska streets. A motorcyclist died there. According to the police, he lost control of the vehicle and hit the railings.
In turn, at the end of June, a city bus collided with a truck on the provincial road 631 in Ząbki. One person was killed a eight were hospitalizedi. An investigation has been initiated into bringing about a crash in land traffic.
The Commissioner also provided data on the most serious accidents in recent days. On July 13 in Sieradz (Łódź Province) at ul. John Paul II, 38 years old, driving an Audi passenger car, she wanted to overtake the 74-year-old on a bicycle. Then, before the end of this maneuver, the overtaken cyclist was hit. As a result of the injuries, the bicycle driver died in hospital.
Another tragic event took place on July 12 in Majdan Sopocki Pierwszy (Lubelskie), where a 35-year-old, driving a passenger Volvo on a straight stretch of road, during an overtaking maneuver, hit the rider of a bicycle without reflective elements. A 41-year-old cyclist died in the accident.
The Commissioner recalled that, as in previous years, every day, during the summer holidays, on the policja.pl website, in social media and on websites administered by police units, a map of Poland with the number of fatal road accidents is presented.
– The current update of the map, including the visualization, aims to draw attention to the scale of the tragedies taking place on Polish roads, encourage the reflection of road users, and encourage the media to discuss the topic of road safety – emphasized the policeman.
– It should be borne in mind that behind each point marked on this map, there is a human tragedy. Any, even seemingly trivial, ignoring the regulations, bravado, disregard for drowsiness or fatigue can be the cause of a tragedy on the road “- added Commissioner Robert Opas.
