The government is preparing restrictions on the purchase of flats. The draft act on this matter may be submitted to the meeting of the Council of Ministers in February, according to the statement of the Minister of Development and Technology, Waldemar Buda. According to the announcement, higher taxation of the sixth and subsequent flats is to be introduced.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Tourism, Waldemar Buda, informed the Polish Press Agency that “there are discussions about the final shape (of the act on restrictions on the purchase of premises – ed.) and how quickly we will proceed”. “We’ll decide the direction within a week,” he declared.

When asked if he thought the government could deal with the project in February, Minister Buda said: “I think so.”

According to the information provided by the ministries, the project assumes that a person – both institutions and investment funds or individual investors, who owns at least five residential premises will be able to buy only one apartment once a year.

In addition, as announced, when buying a sixth or subsequent apartment, you will have to pay a higher tax on civil law transactions in the amount of 6 percent, and the tax will also be applied to transactions on primary market.
