How did it happen that Tusk stood with Kołodziejczak in front of the cabbage?
The neighbor says that he has “disgraced himself a little” and “has gotten involved with the wicked.” The mayor of Starachowice has a grudge against him. Robert Bąkiewicz, an extreme nationalist running from the Law and Justice party, calls him a mythomaniac, a fraud and a careerist. Michał Kołodziejczak also started his political career in PiS. But that was seven years ago. Will he convince the Polish countryside today to vote for Donald Tusk’s party?
Shortly after 9 a.m. we enter the road to the village of Orzeżyn. Just fields as far as the eye can see. On the right, at the entrance to one of them, preparations for a press conference are underway. There are already microphones and several cameras. In the background, cabbage and a device for irrigating the field. It’s September and it’s as hot as July. There’s still over an hour until the conference, so let’s move on. We pass a car standing on the side of the road. Michał Kołodziejczak came to the field to cut some sunflowers.
– For the house – Kołodziejczak shouts back.
He argues that the visit of the chairman of the Civic Platform is the first step to show his neighbors, farmers and rural residents that, as the Civic Coalition, they take rural issues “with all their hearts.”
The Kołodziejczak family house is located a bit further away. By the road there is a white and red flag, an address and an inscription: Kołodziejczak. The leader of Agrounia lives there with his wife, two small children and his parents. They stay away from politics. They do not speak publicly. In the village we hear that they are very religious. That they are a very decent and hard-working family.
