How much can PiS lose from subsidies? Ryszard Kalisz on millions of zlotys

Last week National Electoral Commission did not make a decision on the financial report of the PiS committee from the parliamentary elections in 2023. It adjourned the meeting on this matter until August 29. It was justified that after receiving extensive documentation – including the Chancellery of the Prime Minister – the National Electoral Commission contacted two state institutions: the Government Legislative Centre and the Scientific and Academic Computer Network, to clarify doubts arising from letters that have recently been received.

The consequence of a potential rejection of the financial report could be that PiS could lose up to 75 percent of its nearly PLN 26 million subsidy and up to 75 percent of the subsidy for each seat in parliament it obtains. Importantly, the questioned financing must be within the framework of the election campaign, so in the case of reports on last year's elections, only the period from August 8 to October 13, 2023 is examined.

Member of the National Electoral Commission, attorney Richard Kalisz (former MP, head of the presidential office and minister of internal affairs and administration) spoke on “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 about the use of public funds for the election campaign of PiS candidates. In his opinion, “the most brazen thing was that these were funds used from offices that these people who held state functions held and at the same time ran in the elections.”

He used an example, mentioning the former head of MAP Jacek Sasin. in As reported by Kalisz, the Ministry of State Assets in the period from August 8 to October 13, 2023, i.e. during the election campaign, “incurred costs of PLN 1 million 424 thousand for the purchase of airtime and the purchase of the production of the spot in which Jacek Sasin appeared.”

The host of the program, Piotr Kraśko, asked whether in such a situation “the member of the State Electoral Commission has no doubts that this was election agitation”, Kalisz replied that “of course”. In the opinion of the TVN24 guest, this sum should be “added” to the expenses for the election campaign.

Kraśko also asked his guest how much, based on his calculations so far, PiS could lose from the money it would receive for subsidies. “I say: one million four hundred twenty-four (thousand),” he declared.

In response to the remark by the host of “Fakty po Faktach” that these were only MAP expenses, the lawyer admitted that “exactly”.
