Police officers – explaining themselves for safety reasons – do not want to let farmers on the tracks who intended to block a broad-gauge railway line in Hrubieszów (Lubelskie Voivodeship), where grain from Ukraine enters Poland. Kołodziejczak: Guys, it’s not going to be okay

Even before the start of the protest, the police arrived on the spot and did not let the farmers onto the tracks. So the protesters are standing on the road by the railway crossing. Traffic is taking detours.

The leader of Agrounia, Michał Kołodziejczak, also appeared among the protesters, saying that “we live in a fiction created by Law and Justicethat it’s going to be okay.”

– I’m telling you straight here: somehow it won’t. Guys, it’s not going to be okay. Today, why should we sow it, when in a moment there will be no place to sell our crops or give money to companies that today make money from all this – he said.

Farmers have announced that the protest will last seven days. The demonstrators are demanding imposition of tariffs on grain from Ukraine.

The police explain why they did not let farmers on the tracks

Superintendent Andrzej Fijołek, spokesman for the Provincial Police Commander in Lublie, explained that the farmers were not allowed on the tracks, because the officers had to take care of “the safety of residents, assembly participants and passability”.

– We understand the emotions, but it cannot be that almost under our supervision we will lead to a situation where someone will jump on the tracks – he stressed.

The Ukrainian side proposes to limit grain imports to Poland

On Friday, after a meeting with the Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine, Mykola Solski, the new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Robert Telus, announced that the Ukrainian side “submitted a proposal to very strongly limit for some time, and for the moment even completely stop the arrival of grain to Poland.” . Telus stressed that the transit of grain from Ukraine through Poland will be “very closely monitored by both the Polish and Ukrainian side, so that the grain does not stay in Poland”.

On Saturday, the Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves announced that it had started purchasing consumption wheat exclusively from Polish producers. Bids can be submitted until April 14.

On Tuesday, Minister Telus announced that ordered the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate to inspect grainwhich is in Poland to make sure that we have good quality grain. On Wednesday, he announced the organization of a meeting with the ambassadors of the countries to which grain from Poland may be delivered.
