Hubert Hurkacz has created a strong tennis legacy since turning pro in 2015. He has already reached heights that none of his countrymen have managed before, meaning his place as a Polish tennis legend has already been cemented.
Hurkacz has won many events in his long-term career on the ATP tour, and he has consistently maintained a strong argument for being one of the leading players on the planet.
Going into 2024, Hurkacz is strongly positioned to further his impact on the sport, as at the age of 26 he is surely at his peak physical ability to add more honours to his evergrowing tennis CV.
Hurkacz’s major chances in 2024
Hurkacz will be a significant underdog to secure his first major triumph in 2024, although he could well turn out to be a strong dark horse.
He has historically produced his greatest form at Wimbledon and that may present the most likely environment in which he could secure a shock victory. In tennis betting, he is offered at 50/1 to win on the London leg of the quartet of majors.
According to the odds, the Polish native has similar chances at the opening major event of the year. In Australian Open odds, he is also offered at 50/1 suggesting while he has already made history for his country, a major triumph may be out of reach for him with the array of immense talent ranked above him.
Hurkacz has little experience in Roland Garros after entering for the first time last year, and in the US Open, he has consistently been knocked out in the second round.
Australia or England would be the most likely locations for a successful major tournament for Hurkacz, although a deep run in any of the tournaments would alone be defining when it comes to extending his legacy.
Hurkacz’s greatest achievements may still await him as he surely has an abundance of major appearances remaining in his career. But what are his standout highlights so far which have earned him a comfortable position as the greatest Polish man to ever play the game?
Highest-ranked Polish man ever
Hurkacz has consistently been ranked in the ATP’s top 100 players since becoming a mainstream name in the professional sport with his ranking of 86 in 2018.
He recorded the greatest ranking of his career in November 2021, when he broke the top 10 and established himself as the ninth-best player on the planet. This was the achievement that ensured he from then on stood alone as the leading Polish men’s player of all time.
Hurkacz has not yet managed to rank higher than ninth place, but ever since he has not dropped off and has been a constant top-20 player shown by his ranking history.
Seven single titles
The ATP rankings are determined by the performances of players at official events. This of course means that Hurkacz has delivered some fine displays over the years, which has allowed him to maintain a high ranking since 2021.
On the ATP Tour, he has been an overall champion of seven different events. In 2021, he won his first at the Miami Open, and last year he recorded his seventh victory at the Shanghai Masters.
His most impressive title victory came in 2022 though, as he overcame one of the greatest players of this generation Daniil Medvedev in straight sets at the 2022 Halle Open.
Hurkacz has consistently been a top-level player over the last four years in the men’s game. He has won many titles and regularly reached the latter stages of events to secure a spot amongst the highest-ranked players in the sport.
He has already made timeless history for his nation in the sport, and more landmarks could yet await Hurkacz, as major event success is surely the ultimate achievement he hopes to secure before his career is over.
