The Hungarian government negotiated with Russia the release of prisoners of war, who were Hungarians from Ukrainian Transcarpathia. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to Semjen’s statement on Friday by summoning the charge d’affaires of Hungary.

“The release of Ukrainian prisoners of war is always good news. Ukrainein cooperation with its international partners, is actively working to bring all our defenders home,” Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Facebook on Friday. from the media.

“The Ukrainian side sent a request to provide detailed information about our citizens and immediately provide access to them to the Ukrainian consul in order to get acquainted with their health and provide them with consular assistance,” Nikolenko wrote.

“During the meeting, the need to coordinate cooperation on such delicate issues as the release of prisoners of war was emphasized,” he added.

Hungary demanded that Kirill be removed from the sanctions list

In the course of negotiations on the sixth package of sanctions on Russia in mid-2022, the Hungarian government demanded that Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Ruthenia be removed from the sanctions list.

About 150,000 Hungarians live in Ukrainian Zakarpattia.
